The 4th ANSA Master Class on Cardiology was held at Ettington Chase, Stratford upon Avon on the 2nd December 2005, sponsored by an educational grant from Amgen.
Dr. David Wheeler, Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Nephrologist from the Royal Free and University College London, was an excellent Chair for the day and also presented the opening lecture “Basic Anatomy & Physiology of the heart”.
The line up of guest speakers and topics was impressive and comprehensive.
Digby Lund, Chair of the Association of Renal Industries entertained us all with his excellent presentation on Anaemia in Heart Failure.
After coffee, Valerie Ross, Senior Pharmacist Cardiac Services from Barts and the London NHS Trust, highlighted “Basic pharmacological Management of patients in Chronic Heart Failure.
Followed by Heather Jayasekera, Clinical Nurse from Hope Hospital Manchester, talking on ‘Nurse Led Blood Pressure Management”.
Eve Shannon, Heart Failure Liaison Nurse from Glasgow Western Infirmary, started the afternoon with a very interesting talk about Managing Patients in Heart Failure and it was clear that there is a great deal of overlap with patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
The closing speaker was once again Dr Wheeler with a talk on “Vascular Disease and Calcification”.
Special thanks go to Dr Wheeler for his substantial participation in the day’s content and in keeping the momentum and interest throughout the day.
The Cardiology Master Class was the final ANSA master class, which has completed the jigsaw of anaemia management of Chronic Disease.
Once again thanks to all the speakers for their excellent presentations enabling a better understanding of the cardiology disease process and its effects on anaemia and relationship with CKD.
The Presentation slides are now available to download. Please see Resources section.
